
Throughout mainland Portugal, three districts were initially under a yellow weather warning, the least severe, but the IPMA later upgraded this to orange, as stated in a communiqué issued at 16:18.
On Wednesday, from 03:00 to 15:00, the districts of Setúbal, Évora, Beja, and Faro will be under an orange warning due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind, according to the IPMA.
Additionally, the IPMA has placed all 18 districts of mainland Portugal under a yellow warning from today through Wednesday at different times due to adverse weather conditions.
The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high meteorological risk situation,” while the yellow is issued when there is a risk for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) recorded 138 incidents in the Lisbon region today until 16:00 due to bad weather, mostly floods and falling trees, noting that this tally does not include data for the capital.
Lisbon reported 66 incidents between 06:00 and 16:00, mainly floods due to precipitation, which led to the closure of traffic in the Campo Pequeno tunnel.
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) warned today of potential floods in urban areas and rising water levels in the coming days due to forecasts of heavy rain and strong winds, urging the population to take preventive measures.
