Lisbon Stock Exchange closes at 11-year highs

The PSI benchmark index increased by 0.19% to 7,021.62 points, reaching its highest level in nearly 11 years during a period of corporate earnings reports and approximately 10 days before the anticipated legislative elections.

Among the 15 listed companies on the PSI, nine ended the day in ‘green’, five in ‘red’, and one, Jerónimo Martins, which will announce its results today, remained unchanged.

Leading the gains was Mota-Engil, which rose 4.56% to 3.95 euros, followed by Altri, which gained 1.99% to 6.21 euros, and Sonae, which increased 1.77% to 1.15 euros.

BCP was notable, with its shares adding 0.96% to 0.592 euros, REN up by 0.87% to 2.91 euros, and EDP, which rose 0.86% to 3.30 euros.

Conversely, EDP’s subsidiary, EDP Renováveis, fell 2.83% to 8.08 euros, NOS dropped 1.50% to 3.61 euros, and Corticeira Amorim declined 0.91% to 7.62 euros.

It was reported today that Corticeira Amorim’s profit rose by 2.1% to 16.4 million euros in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2024, while sales declined by 2.2% to 229.4 million euros, as announced by the company.

Galp Energia also saw a decrease, dropping 0.18% to 13.73 euros.

In Europe, all major markets closed in ‘red’, with the Paris stock exchange dropping 0.91%, Milan decreasing by 0.62%, Frankfurt losing 0.57%, and Madrid falling by 0.37%.

This occurred on a day when the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates was awaited, as investors closely watched the emerging conflict between India and Pakistan and the commencement of negotiations between Washington and Beijing.
