Lisbon stock exchange closes ‘in the red’ with Mota-Engil losing 1.73%

Of the 15 companies listed on the national benchmark index, 12 ended in negative territory while only three finished in positive territory.

Leading the declines was Altri, which fell 1.95% to 5.03 euros per share, followed by Mota-Engil, which dropped 1.73% to 4.76 euros on the day it announced “the best result ever” for a first half-year.

The Portuguese construction firm reported a net profit of 59 million euros in the first six months of this year, a 20% increase compared to the 49 million euros recorded in the same period of 2024, according to a statement sent to the CMVM.

Among the heavyweights affecting the PSI were Nos, which lost 0.89% to 3.91 euros, BCP, which retreated 0.83% to 0.74 euros, and Jerónimo Martins, which depreciated 0.19% to 20.92 euros.

In contrast, limiting further declines in the national benchmark index were the stocks from the EDP family. The parent company rose 0.78% to 3.86 euros, while its subsidiary, EDP Renováveis, increased by 0.29% to 10.37 euros.

Also noteworthy was REN, which advanced 0.17% to 2.98 euros per share.

Across the other major European stock markets, the day was generally negative. The Spanish IBEX-35 fell 0.65%, the German DAX lost 0.44%, and the British FTSE 100 depreciated 0.11%. In contrast, the French CAC-40 increased by 0.44%.
