The coordination and management body for mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area stated in a communication that despite the communication campaign in place since July, “there are still thousands of young people who have not updated their free pass, which raises concerns as the start of the school year approaches.”
TML highlights that the update can, in most cases, be completed “quickly, simply, and without needing to travel through the Navigante app,” which allows users to check the validity of the discount, renew the free pass, and ensure continued access to free travel.
According to the organization, as many passes expire at the end of August and September, it is important for young people not to delay the update until the end of the month, thereby avoiding queues and waits at Customer Spaces and reducing issues with in-person service.
More information and tutorials on how to update the Young Free Pass are available on the website (www.navegante.pt) and on the Navigante Instagram account.
The Navigante passes were introduced in 2019 and now offer free travel for young people up to 23 years old (inclusive), even if they are no longer students.
The price of the Navigante Metropolitan pass (valid across the entire Lisbon Metropolitan Area) is 40 euros per month, the Navigante Municipal pass (valid in one municipality) costs 30 euros, and the Navigante +65, for seniors, costs 20 euros.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Area comprises 18 municipalities on the north and south banks of the River Tagus, namely Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra, and Vila Franca de Xira.
