The hospitalization of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, marks the start of the debate between Henrique Gouveia e Melo and António Filipe.
Henrique Gouveia e Melo, speaking first, lamented that “the debates increasingly discuss more peripheral matters and fewer issues that concern the Presidency.” Nonetheless, he wished the President a “speedy recovery.”
Regarding Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa not being replaced, the admiral argued that “it is necessary to understand if he is truly unable to carry out his duties.”
On the other hand, António Filipe referred to the Constitution, stating that, in Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s case, “everything is normal.”
