The decision was made on Monday night, unanimously, by the Assembly of the Livre party, confirming the expected stance of the party faction led by Rui Tavares and Isabel Mendes Lopes, according to an official party source.
During a press conference on Monday for the presentation of proposed amendments to the document, which will move to the specialty phase after the general discussion, parliamentary leader Isabel Mendes Lopes was asked whether her faction (currently composed of six deputies) had decided on their vote inclination.
The deputy deferred the final decision to the party Assembly, remarking that “it is no secret that the vision of Livre and that of this Government for the country are completely opposite.”
Rui Tavares also emphasized that “at this moment, there is a right-wing majority governing the country, and this right-wing majority needs an opposition.”
“Livre will be that opposition,” he stressed, underscoring the importance of the specialty process and the role of the parliament during this period.
Today, the parliament debates and votes, in general terms, on the State Budget proposal for the coming year, presented by the PSD/CDS-PP Government.
