“Our ambition is to surpass Chega. We want to see you in the rearview mirror. We are behind you, and it won’t be long before we catch up. It might not be tomorrow. But more and more Portuguese who reject hatred, offense, incompetence, and chaos have a party they see as their representative, their voice, the only alternative, the one party that can turn the tide,” stated Rui Tavares at the 16th congress of Livre.
At the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória in Porto, Rui Tavares concluded the congress by stating that an increasing number of Portuguese believe Livre “can turn the tide” and aspire for it to become “the third largest party in Portugal.”
“With little money, with little attention, under the radar, with commentators ignoring us, the truth is that Livre keeps growing. Not long ago, it seemed ridiculous to suggest that we could be the fourth largest party in Portugal, ahead of the Liberal Initiative, and now there are polls that show it,” he remarked.
When asked “do you maintain that ambition?” Rui Tavares responded, “No, we no longer maintain the ambition of what we are already achieving.”
At a congress focused on the municipal elections of October, Tavares urged the candidates present to be “hungry for freedom, eager for change, and voracious for progress,” while also advocating for respect towards all individuals, “no matter how aberrant their ideas may be.”
