Livre’s regret for the “victims of political violence” in the USA rejected.

The initiative received supportive votes from PS, IL, Livre, PCP, BE, PAN, and Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP).

The document presented by Livre states, “The rise in intolerance and acceptance of hate divides all societies,” noting that “this reality has been particularly visible in the USA, where many have been injured and several fatalities have occurred in recent years.”

“It is emphasized that no death is justified, no matter how obscene an individual’s opinion may be. In politics, violence is never the solution,” the Livre representatives assert.

Livre lists several incidents deemed “particularly serious,” referencing the US Capitol attack in 2021, “following Donald Trump’s defeat in the presidential elections,” where “five people lost their lives.”

More recently, in September of this year, Livre cites the murder of the American ultra-conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, which sparked significant controversy.

The party also mentions that in 2022 the husband of the Democrat and former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was “attacked at home.” In June this year “Democratic Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered in Minnesota,” and in the same month, “Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were attacked, sustaining injuries,” among other incidents.

The proposal sought for the Assembly of the Republic to express “its sorrow for all victims of political violence in the USA” and to send condolences to the US Embassy, but it did not achieve unanimous support among all parties.
