“In these terms and with these grounds, it is decided not to take cognizance of this appeal,” states the decision of the Constitutional Court.
The judges concluded that the appeal was untimely, as “the notice for the Santo Tirso Municipal Chamber election on October 12, 2025, was posted on October 15, 2025, and this contentious appeal was submitted to this Constitutional Court by email at 15:04 on October 20, 2025.”
“It is concluded as untimely, obviously leading to its rejection,” the decision states.
Lusa attempted to obtain a reaction from Chega’s candidate for the Santo Tirso Chamber, Tiago Silva Matos, but has not been able to do so yet.
In the document sent to the Constitutional Court, which Lusa accessed, the leading candidate justified the appeal by stating that the Judicial Court of the Santo Tirso District had “denied the recount of votes cast regarding the Municipal Chamber” of that municipality in the Porto district, requested by the party on the 16th.
The candidate argued about “the very small number of votes separating the candidacies for the municipality (23),” advocating for this evaluation “so that there would be no doubts that could undermine the security and certainty of the results obtained.”
The PS won the elections for the Santo Tirso Municipal Chamber, achieving 51.96%, with a total of 21,579 votes and the election of six council members, followed by the PSD/IL coalition, which achieved 30.14%, resulting from 12,517 votes, electing the remaining three council members. Chega was the third most voted force, with 8.60% and 3,573 votes counted.
