Local Elections: House of president and candidate in Vila Pouca de Aguiar stoned

The candidacy of Ana Rita Dias issued a statement indicating that “authorities were alerted and arrived at the scene, with efforts underway to identify those responsible for the act.”

The GNR confirmed to the agency that a patrol went to the location and filed an official report.

It was reported that the “violent stoning by unknown persons” occurred around 11:15 PM on Monday.

“Inside the residence were the candidate, her husband, and their two young daughters, who presumably experienced moments of great tension. The attack lasted nearly an hour, with several rocks and fruits being hurled at the front of the house, the roof, and the inner courtyard,” the statement added.

The document mentions that “despite the scare, there are no injuries reported, but the material damage is significant.”

Ana Rita Dias, who took over the presidency of the Vila Pouca de Aguiar City Hall in 2024 after the former president’s departure, also leads the PSD list for this municipality in the Vila Real district.

The PS candidate for the Vila Pouca de Aguiar City Hall, Manuel Borges Machado, has already expressed “total repudiation” of the vandalism, offered support, and expressed hope “that everything will be swiftly clarified.”

The upcoming municipal elections on October 12 in this district of Vila Real also feature candidates Sónia Macedo (CDU), José Diegas as an independent, and Jéssica Cruz (Chega).

In the 2021 municipal elections, the PSD secured victory with 5,681 votes (64.95%) and earned five mandates, while the PS received 2,312 votes (26.43%) and two mandates.
