London. Judge attacks protester on Banksy artwork at the Palace of Justice

A new mural by artist Banksy was unveiled on Monday at the Palace of Justice in London, United Kingdom.

The artwork, shared by the artist on social media, depicts a judge—wearing a wig and a black robe—beating a protester lying on the ground, who attempts to defend himself with a blood-spattered sign.

The painting has since been covered with two metal barricades and is under the watch of two security guards, as evident in the gallery above.

This new mural emerged two days after 890 people were detained by London police, amid demonstrations in support of Palestine Action.

Authorities report that 857 protesters were detained for supporting the group, which was banned last July, while 33 were detained for assaulting officers and committing other public order offenses.

Despite no direct reference to the Gaza protests in the mural, Banksy has previously created artwork in support of the Palestinian cause, notably in the West Bank.

Banksy’s Identity Discovered?

Spanish detective Francisco Marco claimed last April to have uncovered Banksy’s identity following a “bet” with his children. According to the lawyer and director of the Método 3 Agency, the artist is Englishman Robin Gunningham, a name previously suggested by other sources.

“This work began as a bet with my children, who challenged me to find him. I started from my office in Barcelona. I went to my sources and sent my staff into the field,” he explained to La Otra Crónica, a supplement of the El Mundo newspaper at the time.

The detective discovered “the creation of Banksy’s internet domain, L3ANSKY.COM, in 2009, registered in the name of Robin Gunningham.”

Francisco Marco also found a series of original Banksy works in properties directly linked to Gunningham, notably ‘Flying Copper’ and ‘Kate Moss’, located near addresses associated with Gunningham under his legal name or pseudonym.

The report also includes property records, email accounts—like l3*****@***il.com—and official documents linking Gunningham to Banksy.

Born in Bristol, UK, on July 28, 1973, Gunningham is remembered by schoolmates as a good artist swept up by the graffiti craze of the 1980s. He has always dedicated himself to satirical works on politics and pop culture, combining graffiti with stencils, a technique used in the visual arts.

“Gunningham disappeared from the graffiti world as he grew professionally. First, he called himself Robert Banks, then disappeared and re-emerged as Banksy. Gunningham has never confirmed or denied being Banksy; it’s a game of misdirection. Initially, he didn’t wish to be identified because he had to avoid the police, given that his work is illegal. Later, because the mystery became integral to his narrative as an author. Now, he simply wants to be left alone. Proof of this is his house, heavily protected, full of cameras, a bunker in a small village 30 kilometers from Bristol,” detailed the investigator.
