Initially, the penalty of losing nationality for serious crimes was included in the Government’s proposal for revising the nationality law, but PSD and CDS later decided to separate it to prevent the risk of unconstitutionality from affecting the entire legislative initiative of the executive.
The left-wing parliamentary groups voted against it, and PS has already indicated that the penalty of losing nationality could violate constitutional principles.
