“The Loures City Council confirms the submission, this Thursday, of the opposition to the provisional injunction decreed by the Court on July 15,” said a source from the municipality in the Lisbon district, without providing further details.
The issue involves an order from the Lisbon Administrative Court that halted the demolition of precarious housing in Bairro do Talude, following an injunction filed by a lawyer on behalf of 14 residents.
The court had given the Loures municipality 10 working days to comment on the directive, but according to a municipal source, the complexity of the case allowed for an extension of the deadline.
The Loures City Council began a demolition operation of 64 precarious homes, housing 161 people, on July 14.
In two days, 55 were demolished, but on the second day, an injunction was filed by 14 residents, which the Lisbon Administrative Court accepted, leading to the suspension of operations.
Subsequently, the Loures City Council initiated a process to clear the debris resulting from the demolitions.
Some of the displaced individuals claim they have no housing alternatives and continue to stay in the neighborhood, in tents or in the open.
