Loures says that social services support 14 of the 36 displaced families.

The Municipality of Loures issued a new statement today clarifying that of the 36 individuals from Talude Militar who sought its social services by Wednesday, only 14 accepted and are receiving assistance.

As of Wednesday, “of the 36 families attended by the social action services, 14 are receiving support from the Municipality of Loures, 14 indicated they found alternative housing with family or friends, one refused the available support, and 7 were not interested in the solutions presented,” the municipality stated in a release.

Among those attended by the municipality’s social services were 69 adults and 46 minors. Some families found other alternatives or did not accept the proposed solutions.

In total, the families receiving municipal support are responsible for 31 minors.

The municipality also notes that of the 55 families occupying the now-demolished precarious constructions, “19 did not seek social support.”

For the families supported by the Municipality of Loures, three, with five minors, continue to receive overnight support, and ten, with 21 minors, are receiving food aid, according to the statement.

Additionally, five families “managed to gain autonomy through the rental market, benefiting from municipal support for the deposit and the first month’s rent,” it emphasizes.

In addition to housing and food solutions, individuals in unemployment situations were identified and are now being assisted by the employability support office and others by the municipal migrant support office, “to promote their labor integration and documentation regularization,” the communiqué mentions.

On the ground, social action technicians, employability support, and migrant support teams remain active in mobile units and at the local association’s facilities – Associação para a Mudança e Representação Transcultural (AMRT), it adds.

The Municipality of Loures also highlights that, in coordination with the AMRT, it conducted a cleanup operation in Talude Militar today, “aiming to remove accumulated waste and improve space safety conditions.” This operation will continue on Saturday.

Lastly, it reaffirms that “all individuals affected [by the demolitions] were previously informed and accompanied, with social support available before, during, and after the operation.”
