Luís Filipe Menezes’ house was robbed during the inauguration ceremony.

Luís Filipe Menezes disclosed on social media that his home was “brutally burgled and vandalized” on Tuesday night, November 4, during his inauguration as the Mayor of Vila Nova de Gaia.

According to the mayor, “everything of value” was stolen, and the criminals showed awareness of “politics” by timing the burglary with his inauguration.

“Yesterday, during the ceremony of my inauguration as Mayor of Gaia, my house was brutally burgled and vandalized. Everything of value was taken. The perpetrators appear to have knowledge of ‘politics’ since, despite my house being empty the previous week when I traveled outside Portugal, they chose the hour of my inauguration for this wicked invasion!” Menezes began in a post shared on Instagram on Wednesday night.

“We must trust in our excellent police and forget the valuable and sentimentally significant items that were taken from us. It was difficult for the younger ones, but we move forward. Another reason to significantly enhance security in Gaia,” he added.
