Luís Vicente has a new album with a quartet featuring William Parker and Hamid Drake.

‘No Kings!’ was recorded live at Bimhuis, a concert hall in Amsterdam, during the summer of 2022, when the Luso-American quartet was touring Europe.

JACC Records, the label of Jazz ao Centro Clube from Coimbra, describes ‘No Kings!’ as a continuation of their collaboration that began with the album ‘Goes without saying, but it’s got to be said’, recorded live at ZDB in Lisbon and released in 2020.

‘No Kings!’ will be showcased on Tuesday in Vienna, Wednesday in Budapest, Thursday in Mechelen (Belgium), and Friday in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic).

Next week, the quartet will perform at the Festival Jazz ao Centro in Coimbra (on the 16th) and at Outono em Jazz at Casa da Música, Porto (on the 17th).

American bassist William Parker, known for forming a significant rhythm section in jazz with American drummer Hamid Drake for over thirty years, will not be present at these concerts, with Brad Jones and John Edwards stepping in as replacements.

In the quartet format, Parker and Drake collaborate with American saxophonist John Dikeman, based in Amsterdam, and Portuguese trumpeter Luís Vicente, all co-crediting the album ‘No Kings!’.

Lisbon-born Luís Vicente boasts an extensive discography with various jazz formations, predominantly trios and quartets, and embarked on a solo venture with the 2020 album ‘Maré’.
