
A Belgian-Portuguese citizen, Joseph Figueira Martin, kidnapped by the Wagner group and later detained in the Central African Republic (CAR), has been sentenced to 10 years of forced labor, as reported today.
He is said to have been tortured before ultimately being handed over to CAR authorities.
An anthropologist and worker for an American NGO, he is accused of espionage, terrorism, and collusion with rebel militias. His family and defense are calling for his release and intend to file an appeal on Wednesday.
