The Polícia Judiciária (PJ), through the Criminal Information Unit, has located and arrested a 48-year-old man in Almada. This follows an international arrest warrant issued last May by Brazilian judicial authorities.
The suspect is charged with attempted murder, which occurred in 1996, as stated in a PJ communiqué released on Saturday.
“The facts occurred in October 1996, in public, in a city in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil,” the statement reads.
According to the authorities, the suspect “without any apparent motive, fired two shots with a firearm towards the victim, failing to cause death due to circumstances beyond his control.”
For these actions, the PJ emphasizes, the man may face a 20-year prison sentence.
The suspect “had been living in Portugal since September 2020, with his wife and children.”
He will be brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for the application of coercive measures.
