A 25-year-old man wanted in Brazil for attempted murder has been detained in Porto, as announced by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in a statement on Wednesday.
Investigators report that the individual, of Portuguese-Filipino descent, is suspected of stabbing his former partner 17 times in the neck, head, back, and abdomen in September 2023 in São Paulo state.
The PJ further states that, despite ending their romantic relationship, both the victim and the suspect maintained a friendship and continued to live in the same house. However, “following a disagreement and without any apparent reason,” the suspect attempted to kill his former partner.
At one point, the victim managed to lock themselves in the bathroom and called for help.
The suspect fled the scene but has now been located and arrested in Portugal.
If convicted, the man may face up to 25 years in prison. He is currently set to appear before the Tribunal da Relação do Porto, where appropriate coercive measures will be determined.
