Lusodescendant Louane represents France in Eurovision (and has a concert here)

The Franco-Portuguese singer Louane, representing France in the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, will take the stage this Thursday in Basel, Switzerland, to perform ‘maman.’ The artist is directly qualified for the final next Saturday and is scheduled to perform in Portugal in April next year.

The song ‘maman’ is a tribute to her mother, Isabel Pinto dos Santos, the daughter of a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother, who passed away from cancer in 2014 when Louane was only 17 years old. Prior to that, Louane had lost her father about a year earlier.

In ‘maman,’ the artist reflects on the evolution of her life, from her mother’s death to her own journey into motherhood. “I have changed a lot. I grew. I kept everything from you that makes me who I am,” the song expresses in French.

The song concludes with the word ‘maman’ spoken by her five-year-old daughter, Esmée.

France, which automatically advances to the Eurovision final as part of the ‘Big 5,’ is considered a favorite to win, according to the website EurovisionWorld, which collects data from major betting outlets.

‘Maman’ ranks fourth on the list, with a 6% chance of winning, trailing Sweden (39%), Austria (22%), and the Netherlands (6%).

On Wednesday, Louane announced her international tour ‘Not Solo,’ which kicks off in Lisbon and will visit cities such as London, Berlin, Cologne, and Amsterdam.

The concert in Portugal is set to take place at LAV – Lisboa Ao Vivo on April 16, 2026. Tickets will be available from May 16 at regular outlets, priced at 30 euros.

Over the years, Louane, who gained fame in France in 2013, has rarely spoken about her mother’s death, noted Le Parisien. In January, upon announcing her role as France’s Eurovision representative, she made a dedication and shared a video featuring images from her childhood and adolescence alongside her mother.

“You dreamed of seeing me there, mom, without knowing that one day it might happen. Of course, you are proud, of course, you are watching from afar. So, you know what? I’m going to do it for us, for our dreams. I’m going to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest”, she stated.

Born in Pas-de-Calais, Louane rose to fame in France after participating in ‘The Voice: La plus belle voix’ in 2013, and has since sold over three million albums.

She was one of the stars of the 2014 French film ‘The Bélier Family,’ which inspired ‘CODA,’ winner of the Best Picture Oscar in 2022. Her debut album, ‘Chambre 12,’ including the hit single ‘Jour 1,’ was released in 2015 and became the best-selling album in France that year.
