The event will feature participants such as Israel Campos (Angola), Ozias Filho (Brazil), Adolfo Lopes, Arménio Vieira (remotely, with a text), Dina Salústio, Germano Almeida, Hélio Varela (via video), Manuel Pereira Silva, Nardi Sousa, Paulo Veríssimo, Princezito, and Sérgio Raimundo (Cape Verde), Teresa Moure Pereiro (Galicia), Emílio Tavares Lima (Guinea-Bissau), Joaquim Ng Pereira (Macau/China), Sérgio Raimundo (Mozambique), Hélia Correia, Isabel Castro Henriques (video), Manuel Alegre (text), Ricardo Araújo Pereira (Portugal), and Alice Goretti Pina (São Tomé and Príncipe).

Also participating will be the writer Cláudio Silva, this year’s winner of the UCCLA – Lisbon Municipal Chamber Literary Revelation Prize: New Talents, New Works in the Portuguese Language, and João de Sousa, from the publisher A Bela e o Monstro, responsible for the annotated edition of “Os Lusíadas.”

The event begins today with a meeting between writers and students, taking place at a secondary school and the University of Cape Verde, before the official opening attended by Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves, which will include a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the independence of former Portuguese colonies and the 500th anniversary of Camões.

This will be followed by the unveiling of a bust of Camões at the National Library of Cape Verde, donated by UCCLA.

Camões will remain a theme in a panel featuring several writers, including Camões Prize winners Germano Almeida and Hélia Correia.

Literature and humor, with Ricardo Araújo Pereira, will close the first day of the event.

On Friday, the UCCLA-CML Literary Revelation Prize will be presented, with awardee Cláudio da Silva.

The 50th anniversary of the independence of former Portuguese colonies will dominate the afternoon of the second day, which on Saturday will explore the relationship between literature and artificial intelligence.
