Macau casino revenues hit a six-year high in October.

The gaming sector in Macau generated 24.1 billion patacas (2.6 billion euros) last month, marking the highest monthly revenue since October 2019, according to Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

This achievement comes despite the Macau authorities raising the tropical storm warning to level 8, the third highest, due to Typhoon Matmo on October 4, leading to a suspension of public transportation.

This coincided with China’s National Day ‘Golden Week’ (October 1), an extended holiday period lasting eight days this year, one more than in 2024, due to the proximity of the Mooncake Festival (October 7).

The October ‘Golden Week’ is the second-largest mass movement in China, following the Lunar New Year period, the main traditional family celebration, which falls in January or February according to the lunar calendar.

Macau welcomed a total of 1.14 million visitors, 16.5% more than the same period in 2024, including over 191,000 on October 4, the highest daily figure for October’s ‘Golden Week’.

The year-on-year revenue increase of 15.9% in October exceeded analysts’ expectations.

JP Morgan Securities had projected an increase between 3% and 6%, while Seaport Research Partners analyst Vitaly Umansky anticipated a 10% growth.

The figure recorded in October represented 91.1% of that achieved in the same month of 2019, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Macau’s casinos had revenues of 26.4 billion patacas (2.86 billion euros).

In terms of accumulated gross revenue, the first ten months of 2025 saw an 8% increase over the same period last year, reaching 205.4 billion patacas (22.2 billion euros).

Macau ended 2024 with total revenues of 226.8 billion patacas (24.5 billion euros), up 23.9% from the previous year.

The Macau Government initially projected total revenues of 240 billion patacas (25.9 billion euros) for 2025, representing a 6% increase compared to last year.

However, on June 11, the territory’s parliament approved a new budget proposed by the executive, reducing the public revenue forecast by 4.56 billion patacas (492.7 million euros).

Macau is recognized as the global gaming capital and remains the only location in China where casino gaming is legal.

The territory hosts six concessionaires—MGM, Galaxy, Venetian, Melco, Wynn, and SJM—that renewed their concession contracts for ten years in December 2023, which took effect on January 1, 2024.
