The national airports risk constraints between this Saturday and Monday, due to the strike of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), warns in a statement ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, advising some passengers to go early to board.
“Constraints may occur at the border control at Lisbon airport on May 20, 21 and 22, and at the airports of Porto, Faro, Funchal, Porto Santo and Ponta Delgada on May 22, mainly during the morning,” it states.
ANA advises passengers bound for countries outside the Schengen area to board early and says it will “do everything in its power to mitigate” the constraints caused to passengers.
The inspectors of the Foreigners and Borders Service start a strike Saturday at the Lisbon airport, between 5:00 and 10:00 am, a strike that will be extended on Monday to the airports of Porto, Faro and Madeira.
The Union of Investigation, Inspection and Border Inspectors (SIIFF) announced two weeks ago strike periods starting May 20 at Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Madeira airports.
The strike is related to the uncertainty about the future of SEF inspectors after the government approved, on April 6, the transition of the extinct SEF investigation and surveillance career to the criminal investigation career of the Judiciary Police, following the restructuring process.
SIIFF delivered two strike pre-notices that will take place in May and June, one for Lisbon airport and the other for Faro, Porto and Madeira airports, as well as the remaining border crossings.
ANA manages 10 airports in Portugal, on the mainland (Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Beja) and on the islands of the Azores (Ponta Delgada, Horta, Flores and Santa Maria) and Madeira (Madeira and Porto Santo).
