Madeira recorded 454 divorces last year.

According to provisional data regarding marriages dissolved by divorce in this archipelago, the municipality of Ribeira Brava, located on the western side of the island of Madeira, recorded the highest number of cases (2.3 per thousand inhabitants), while the Porto Moniz municipality on the northern coast showed the lowest rate (0.8).

In 2024, 71.6% of divorces were “by mutual consent,” with the remaining 28.4% stemming from processes “without consent from one of the spouses,” the same data indicates.

The statistical analysis revealed that the average age at divorce was 48.9 years for men and 46.2 years for women, figures that were 49.0 years and 46.6 years in 2023, respectively.

Of the divorces decreed last year, 67.8% involved marriages lasting longer than or equal to 10 years (308 cases), while 32.2% were from unions lasting less than 10 years (146 cases). Over 41% of divorces were from marriages lasting longer than or equal to 20 years (188 cases).

The DREM also highlights that 79 divorces occurred from marriages lasting longer than or equal to 30 years.
