A man has been charged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office with three counts of aggravated murder with a firearm, one count of attempted aggravated murder with a firearm, and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
The crimes occurred on October 2, 2024, in Penha de França, Lisbon, when the accused, armed with a firearm, went to a barbershop with the intent to get a haircut.
According to the indictment, because he was not attended to immediately, the defendant shot the barber, another customer waiting, and the customer’s partner, resulting in the deaths of all three victims, highlighted the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
The accused also fired at a barbershop employee but missed.
The shooting victims were the 43-year-old owner of the “Granda Pente” barbershop, who had five children, along with a couple aged 34 and 36 from the Alenquer area, who were near the establishment at the time. The woman, who had two children, was pregnant.
The suspect, a resident of the neighborhood where the crime took place and known for disputes with neighbors, fled with his father and brother, seeking refuge in a district of Setúbal’s Pinhal Novo, where he was located and surrounded by police. He eventually surrendered with family assistance.
The man was placed in preventive detention. The investigating magistrate who determined this measure requested a psychiatric evaluation of the defendant, but experts deemed him capable of distinguishing right from wrong.
