A 31-year-old man was arrested by the National Republican Guard (GNR) on July 12 after attempting to run over his mother in the Nisa municipality, it was announced this Wednesday.
In a statement to the press, the security force explained that the victim is 66 years old.
The GNR received a report of domestic violence, and officers were dispatched to the scene where it was determined that the suspect attempted to run over his mother with a light commercial vehicle.
The arrest was carried out by the Portalegre Territorial Command of the GNR, through the Nisa Territorial Post.
The detainee was made an official suspect and brought before the Portalegre Judicial Court, where the harshest coercive measure, preventive detention, was applied.
The GNR emphasizes that domestic violence is a public crime and reporting it is “a collective responsibility,” which can be done through the Electronic Complaint Portal, by telephone via 112, or at the nearest GNR station.
It is also possible to use the MAI112 app and SMS Security, exclusively intended for deaf citizens.
