A 37-year-old man has been detained for domestic violence after threatening his wife and children with a firearm in the Penha de França area of Lisbon.
In a statement released on social media this Thursday, the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon’s PSP reported that officers were alerted to a domestic violence incident and, upon arrival, encountered the suspect in a highly agitated emotional state.
The man made “death threats to his partner and his children” and wielded a “firearm, stating he would shoot them.” During the threats, the man kicked a window and attempted to tear down a blind, “breaking everything within his reach.”
According to the PSP, the suspect “has addiction issues with alcohol and narcotics, which exacerbate his violent behavior under their influence.”
Despite the aggression, officers managed to subdue and handcuff the suspect, leading to his arrest.
After being presented to the competent Judicial Authority, the man was subjected to the preventive detention measure.
