The Judicial Police (PJ), through the Directorate of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, arrested a 53-year-old man on Thursday, in the Torres Vedras area, for being heavily suspected of committing “more than a dozen” aggravated child sexual abuse crimes. The victim is an 11-year-old girl, the suspect’s granddaughter.
In a statement released on Friday, the PJ revealed that “the incidents began when the child was only nine years old and ended late last year.”
The victim “disclosed the abuse in a school context, prompting the school to immediately report the situation to the PJ.”
The Judicial Police “visited the location and conducted urgent investigative measures,” which led to the detention of the aggressor, who “was living with his granddaughter.”
“The potential involvement of other family members is still under investigation,” stated the authority.
The arrested individual is scheduled to appear before the judiciary today for the first interrogation and the application of preventive measures.
