A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Amadora on suspicion of sexually abusing his stepdaughter. The girl was reportedly only six years old when the abuse began, and she is now nine.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 27, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) disclosed that the man is “strongly suspected of committing multiple aggravated child sexual abuse crimes.”
The crimes were allegedly committed since 2022 at the family’s home in Amadora, “within an apparently structured family unit, which included other minors, including a baby,” according to the PJ.
The discovery followed an awareness campaign on preventing sexual abuse. After attending the session, the girl confided in her teacher about the sexual abuse she had been subjected to by her stepfather since the age of six.
The school immediately reported the incident to the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP), which then involved the PJ, as the crime fell under their jurisdiction.
A team of investigators from the Judiciária quickly went to the scene, conducting essential inquiries, resulting in the suspect’s arrest in less than 24 hours.
The man is now set to appear for an initial hearing to determine the imposition of coercive measures.
