A 59-year-old man was detained on Wednesday in Sesimbra for the crimes of aggravated threat and possession of prohibited weapons. According to the National Republican Guard (GNR), among the various weapons in the man’s possession were a sword and two machetes.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Thursday, the authorities indicated that police procedures were conducted “as part of an investigation into threats.”
During these procedures, a “home search was conducted, revealing that the suspect was in possession of prohibited weapons,” leading to his arrest.
In total, an airgun, a sword, two machetes, a dagger, and an axe were seized.
The detainee was brought before the Judicial Court of Sesimbra for the application of coercive measures.
The GNR noted that “according to the Legal Regime of Weapons and Ammunition, anyone who, without authorization, holds, transports, keeps, buys, or acquires any weapon listed in Article 86 (1) of this code, is committing the crime of possessing a prohibited weapon.”
