The Judiciary Police (PJ) announced on Tuesday that a 49-year-old man has been arrested by its Southern Directorate on strong suspicions of attempted murder in the municipality of Aljustrel, which occurred in the early hours of last Sunday, April 6.
The authorities reported that “the altercation between the two men happened in a public area where local festivities were taking place, seemingly sparked by trivial reasons and aggravated by excessive alcohol consumption.”
The victim, a 34-year-old man, “suffered serious injuries from a sharp object, placing his life at risk.”
He received immediate assistance at the scene and was then transported to the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo.
“As a result of the investigative efforts carried out, significant evidence was collected leading to the identification of the alleged perpetrator and the issuance of an arrest warrant,” the statement continued.
The detainee is scheduled to appear before judicial authorities for questioning and the determination of preventive measures.
The inquiry is being managed by the General Competency Court of Ourique.
