A 34-year-old man was arrested last Tuesday, September 16, on suspicion of drug trafficking after being caught consuming alcoholic beverages in a public area in Peniche, in the district of Leiria.
In a statement released this Sunday, the Public Security Police (PSP) indicated that the arrest took place at 7:45 PM during a “preventive patrol operation.”
During the operation, a team “detected a citizen, with a criminal record, consuming alcoholic beverages in public.”
The man also had a “distinctive odor of a certain narcotic product, prompting a personal search.”
Officers discovered that the suspect was in possession of “fragments of a substance that, upon analysis, were confirmed to be hashish.”
Subsequently, a series of additional procedures were carried out, including a home search, during which “more narcotics and various objects related to his illicit activities were seized.”
In total, the PSP seized 53 doses of heroin, 25 doses of cocaine, 217 doses of hashish, 340 euros in cash, a precision scale, a mobile phone, and two knives with drug residues.
The detainee was brought before the judicial authority and is “awaiting legal proceedings as the case unfolds.”
