A 51-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday, September 10, in Beja by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) on suspicion of physical abuse and severe negligence against his bedridden 45-year-old partner.
In a statement, the PSP reported that the man was detained “in compliance with an out-of-court arrest warrant issued by the Judicial Court of Beja.”
The arrest took place “as part of an investigation into physical abuse and severe negligence against his partner, a 45-year-old woman, bedridden, immobile, and without access to hygiene care inside their shared home.”
The suspect had already been “identified and designated as a defendant on September 2, after the victim entered the emergency service of Beja Hospital on August 29.”
Given “the severity of the clinical condition presented and the evidence gathered,” the PSP conducted investigative actions “which culminated in the issuance of the detention warrant and the presentation of the suspect for initial judicial interrogation.”
Coercive measures, including a prohibition on contacting the victim and regular appearances at the PSP station in Beja, were imposed on the defendant.
