The Polícia Judiciária (PJ), through its Central Directorate, has detained a 54-year-old man for the repeated alleged crimes of sexual abuse against a person unable to resist, his sister-in-law, in the Mangualde area.
This arrest was carried out under a warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the DIAP of Viseu, according to a statement by the PJ released on Wednesday.
The investigation, according to the authority, “began with the victim, a 20-year-old, disclosing the abuses” to the National Republican Guard (GNR), “which led to the opening of an inquiry and further evidence-gathering efforts that culminated in the suspect’s detention.”
“The detainee, who is the victim’s brother-in-law, took advantage of the close and trusting family relationship to engage in significant sexual acts with her, exploiting her inability to resist, due to her severe mental health condition,” the PJ further reports.
The man will appear for an initial judicial interrogation for the application of appropriate preventive measures.
