A 46-year-old man was arrested on the night of June 17 in Amadora on suspicion of domestic violence and possession of prohibited weapons, according to the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement released on Friday to Notícias ao Minuto.
Officers responded to a report of a domestic situation where gunshots had been fired in the parish of Falagueira – Venda Nova.
Upon arrival, the victim informed officers that her ex-husband had harassed, insulted, and threatened her with a firearm, firing several shots at her home with the “clear intention of causing fear.”
According to the PSP, the woman was in a state of panic. Efforts were made to locate the suspect, who was intercepted nearby without a weapon.
However, subsequent investigations revealed the “existence of the firearm used along with a series of other firearms,” and various caliber ammunition, hidden in his vehicle and home, specifically: a 7.65 mm caliber firearm, a 6.35 mm caliber firearm, four magazines, 20 caliber 32 ammunition, an automatic opening folding knife, four various caliber ammunition, an alarm gun visibly modified to 6.35 mm caliber, and 20 caliber 12 ammunition.
The detainee is scheduled for a preliminary judicial interrogation to determine appropriate coercive measures.
On Friday, June 20, Notícias ao Minuto also reported another domestic violence case in Fafe, Braga district.
In this case, a 26-year-old man was arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on suspicion of assaulting and raping his 40-year-old girlfriend on the previous Tuesday, June 17.
According to the inspectors, the events took place at the suspect’s residence after a “minor disagreement with the victim.” The suspect “physically assaulted” her and forcibly compelled her “to engage in significant sexual acts,” they reported.
Nonetheless, after the preliminary judicial interrogation, he was subjected to non-custodial coercive measures.
