
A man was arrested for domestic violence by the Leiria District Command of the PSP on Sunday, following intervention by an off-duty officer from the National Republican Guard.
The incident occurred around 6:55 PM when the suspect, with his son at a shopping center, reportedly assaulted him over minor disagreements. The attack included punching the head, slapping the face, and shaking the body.
The young victim, seated in a wheelchair, was unable to defend against the assaults, according to the PSP.
The victim suffered minor facial abrasions not requiring hospital treatment and was handed over to his mother’s care.
The incident prompted outrage among onlookers, leading to the suspect’s arrest by the off-duty GNR officer who witnessed the assaults, as reported by the police.
The PSP stated that the GNR officer subsequently handed the suspect over to responding officers.
