The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a 31-year-old man on Wednesday in the Lisbon area, who had been wanted by Brazilian authorities since 2017. The man was involved in an armed robbery of an ATM located inside a supermarket in Embu das Artes, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo.
The man, along with two others, stole “528,000 reais, equivalent to 83,000 euros,” according to a statement issued on Friday.
Besides this robbery, the trio also targeted a Security and Cash-in-Transit company, stealing a shotgun and three revolvers.
“The detainee has been in Portugal since the end of 2017, with his residency status duly regularized,” the PJ detailed.
The man was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by Brazilian authorities and, after being presented to the Lisbon Court of Appeal, it was decided he would be held in custody while awaiting further extradition proceedings.
