A 60-year-old man has been placed in pre-trial detention, suspected of attempting to murder his girlfriend by pushing her off a yacht after assaulting her near Oeiras, as announced this Thursday by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Lisbon West County.
A statement revealed that “the defendant and the victim, both foreigners, have been dating for about a year and have been living together, at least since December 2024, when they began a journey aboard a yacht owned by the defendant.”
It is indicated that the relationship has been marked by “several episodes of verbal and physical violence and that on May 30, 2025, while on the yacht off Oeiras, after physically assaulting the victim, the defendant pushed her into the sea.”
Afterward, “he started the yacht and left the scene, fully aware that the victim could not swim.”
The woman was eventually “rescued by crew members of a nearby vessel and taken to the hospital, where she was admitted.”
The Public Prosecutor charged the man, heavily indicated for the crimes of attempted qualified homicide and domestic violence, and presented him for a preliminary judicial hearing, resulting in the imposition of pre-trial detention.
The inquiry is proceeding at the DIAP branch of Oeiras.
