Man caught (and detained) for the 15th time driving without a license in Lisbon

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for the 15th time for driving without a license in the parish of Alcântara, Lisbon, as reported by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday in a statement.

According to the police, the suspect was detained at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, during a stop operation on Avenida Brasília, near the Museum of the Orient.

Upon being approached, the man informed officers that he only possessed a digital driving license issued by Guinea-Bissau in March 2023.

After verifying the driver’s identity, the officers noted he had entered Portugal in March 2022, raising suspicions about the validity of the presented license.

Questioned about why he lacked a physical driving license, the man admitted that the purported digital document was sent to him in March 2025 after he made an online bank transfer of 600 euros via a Revolut card.

A search in the IMT’s computer system failed to reveal any valid driving record in the suspect’s name, leading to his arrest.

Further checks in the PSP’s computer system revealed the Guinean national had previously been detained 14 times for driving without legal authorization.

The PSP reported that inside the vehicle, officers found a container with suspicious liquid and a bottle with a false bottom containing “several small packets” of drugs, which the driver claimed were for consumption with friends.

Authorities were skeptical of this claim, as the man was in possession of various notes, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, given the drugs were in individual bags.

A total of 149.70 doses of amphetamines and 139 individual doses of ecstasy were seized.

The suspect will now face a preliminary judicial interrogation to determine appropriate preventive measures.
