A 23-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after stabbing his brother in the parish of Olival Basto, in Odivelas.
The incident occurred at 11:20 PM, according to a statement released Monday by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (Cometlis).
“Officers were alerted to a stabbing that had just occurred, and upon arrival, they were approached by a witness who confirmed the incident, adding that the assailant was still on the scene,” the statement read.
The authorities detailed that the same witness immediately confirmed being a relative of both the victim and the perpetrator, noting that it was “an assault in a family context.”
“The officers managed to locate the assailant who had blood-stained clothing and admitted to stabbing his brother. At that moment, it was also possible to detect the victim, who had been stabbed in the arm, as well as other family members who witnessed the events,” Cometlis further explained.
The weapon used in the crime was recovered after being abandoned by the assailant near the stabbing site. The suspect was arrested and notified to appear before the competent judicial authority.
