“Prevention is in Your Hands”: Remember What You Should (and Should Not) Do
In recent days, given the heat and the high risk of fire, authorities have issued several tips and warnings to the public:
- “Never throw cigarette butts or trash on the ground: a simple oversight can cause a major fire;
- Keep the land around your home clean, creating a protective barrier;
- Do not make bonfires or use fire outdoors during high-risk periods;
- Avoid using machinery that causes sparks (brush cutters, chainsaws, etc.) during the hottest hours.”
The PSP warns: “If you see smoke or fire, call 112 immediately. In case of evacuation, always follow the authorities’ instructions.”

Due to the maximum fire risk in various districts of mainland Portugal, the PSP used its social networks to remind the public of actions they should take to prevent fires.
