Man falls onto train tracks with son and tries to flee the scene. He was arrested.

A three-year-old child is in critical condition at Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon after falling onto the train tracks at Sete Rios while in the arms of their father on the morning of Sunday, October 12.

The fall, whose cause remains uncertain, is under investigation by the authorities, as confirmed by a source from the Public Security Police (PSP) to Notícias ao Minuto.

The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m., according to witnesses who saw the man fall onto the tracks as the train was passing. He reportedly fled the scene, leaving the child behind, leading to suspicions of an attempted murder-suicide.

While it cannot be confirmed if the act was intentional, the police managed to locate the man, who was mildly injured. He was transported to São Francisco Xavier Hospital and detained upon discharge.

Shortly afterward, he was released and notified to appear in court. Any coercive measures, if applied, are currently unknown.

The facts have been communicated to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and efforts have been made to understand the case’s status, though there has been no response yet.
