The man who shot a healthcare professional in Leiria on the night of October 17 has been placed under remand, to be served in a psychiatric facility.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Prosecutor’s Office of the District of Leiria stated that the man is “strongly suspected of committing a qualified offense against physical integrity, a simple offense against physical integrity, and unlawful possession of a weapon.”
According to the statement, the “suspect, armed with airsoft guns and other dangerous objects, shot at two victims, one of whom was a doctor he had previously been a patient of, causing them injuries.”
After appearing in court, the man was subjected to the “remand measure to be served in a psychiatric facility,” considering “the danger of continued criminal activity and severe disturbance of public order, as well as the need for psychiatric monitoring of the suspect.”
The investigation continues under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Leiria, with the assistance of the Judiciary Police of Leiria.
It should be recalled that on October 18, the Board of Directors of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Leiria Region reported that a healthcare professional had been shot but was “well.”
