Man injured after paragliding fall in rocky area in Alcobaça

A 56-year-old paraglider suffered a leg injury after an accidental fall on a cliff area at Gralha beach in Alcobaça early Saturday afternoon.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) stated that the man fell while paragliding and required assistance.

The alert for a “paraglider accident on the beach” was issued at around 2:30 p.m. by the Western Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command (CSREPC Oeste). “SeaWatch” project elements, along with the Local Command of the Nazaré Maritime Police, the São Martinho do Porto Volunteer Fire Department, and INEM, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the victim was “in a rocky area after completing a landing, and the firefighters’ team proceeded with the rescue to the sand area.”

The man had “a suspected fracture of the lower limb” and was stabilized by personnel from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).

Once stabilized, “SeaWatch” project members transported him to the firefighters’ vehicle, which took the victim to the hospital.
