A 38-year-old man was arrested by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) on April 1st in the Avenidas Novas district in Lisbon. The arrest was made on suspicion of assaulting a law enforcement officer.
The police stated on Saturday that they were alerted by a security guard at an establishment about ongoing “assaults between two individuals on the public road.” Upon arrival, the officer found only one suspect involved in the incident, who bore visible injuries and was wandering aggressively in the roadway.
The officer attempted to “calm and guide the suspect to the sidewalk,” but the suspect remained aggressive, violently pushing the officer and repeatedly projecting saliva. He also attempted to punch the officer, which led to his immediate restraint and arrest.
The detained individual has been formally identified as a suspect and is required to report his identity and residence details. The trial has been postponed to a later date, according to PSP.
