A 32-year-old man was arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Thursday, September 25, for committing two crimes of homicide, one of which was attempted.
According to inspectors, the crimes took place in the late afternoon of September 23 in a public area near a restaurant in Lordelo, Paredes, Porto district, following a dispute between the suspect and the victims.
The PJ reported in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto that the victims, who were homeless individuals, were making a fire close to the scene of the crime when they were admonished by the suspect.
The inspectors further described that “unpleasant with the admonishment,” the victims, one wielding an iron rod that was later seized, attempted to attack the suspect. In response, the suspect took the object and violently struck them in the head.
Due to the “brutality employed by the suspect,” the PJ highlighted in the same note that one of the victims was immediately hospitalized with “severe neurological injuries,” a condition that persists, while the following day, the other victim died from a serious cranioencephalic injury.
The detained individual will now be brought before the competent judicial authority for the initial judicial interrogation and for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
