A Turkish national aboard the merchant vessel GOTTLIEB required evacuation on Monday due to a “leg injury.”
The merchant vessel contacted MRCC Lisbon and reported the presence of a 56-year-old passenger with a leg injury. Following an assessment by the Center for Urgent Medical Guidance (CODU-INEM), an urgent medical evacuation was deemed necessary, as stated in a Navy communiqué issued to newsrooms, which coordinated the rescue.
The statement further explained that the “rescue was conducted in close collaboration with the Cascais Port Authority, which deployed a lifeboat from the Institute for Rescue and Life-Saving (ISN) for this purpose.”
“The boat arrived in Cascais at around 13:55, and the patient was immediately transported to a hospital,” it added.
The ship was approximately 30 nautical miles, equivalent to about 48 kilometers, southwest of Cabo Raso.
