
A man was rescued in the early hours of Wednesday from a fishing vessel located 250 kilometers from Montijo, in the Setúbal district.
The Portuguese Air Force reported that the victim, a 41-year-old Moroccan national, required “urgent medical assistance” while on the ship.
“An EH-101 Merlin helicopter from Squadron 751 – ‘Pumas’ was deployed for the mission, taking off from Air Base No. 6 in Montijo around 3 a.m.,” the Air Force detailed.
“After being retrieved, the patient was transported to Lisbon and subsequently transferred to a hospital where he received the necessary medical care,” the note added.
The operation was conducted by the Lisbon Search and Rescue Coordination Center (RCC Lisboa) after a request from the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa). In total, RCC was involved in planning the mission for three hours.
