Man rescued in cardiorespiratory arrest at Óbidos Lagoon

A 57-year-old man was rescued in cardiac arrest after experiencing difficulties in Lagoa de Óbidos – Foz do Arelho, located in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha, on Monday afternoon.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN), in a statement released on social media, indicated that the alert about an unconscious individual in the water was received at 4:15 PM.

Following the alert, which was issued through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Lisbon), members of the Peniche Maritime Police Command and the ‘SeaWatch’ Project, along with the Caldas da Rainha Volunteer Firefighters and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), were immediately mobilized.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was noted that the man had already been quickly removed from the water by lifeguards on duty at the beach, who initiated resuscitation efforts until the arrival of INEM and firefighters who continued these efforts.

The victim was later transported unconscious to a hospital facility, while the Peniche Maritime Police Command assumed responsibility for the incident.
