A man who was detained four years ago after robbing a fuel station in Cascais has decided to honor the officers who “saved” him that day in 2021.
In a Facebook post shared this Sunday, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (Cometlis) announced that two officers received a plaque, which reads: “To officers Hélio Antunes and Pedro Cruz of the Cascais PSP, who saved my life on 21/02/2021.”
The plaque, signed by Pedro Lemos, further states: “My gratitude to these heroes and the entire force.”
According to the same note, the two officers were dispatched in the early hours of January 21, 2021, to a robbery in progress at a fuel station in Cascais.
Upon arrival at the scene, securing it, the officers warned the theft suspect that he should surrender. However, realizing he had no escape, the suspect armed himself with a knife. Fearing that the suspect might harm himself, the officers broke down the door and entered.
Inside, a large pool of blood was found from self-inflicted injuries. The two officers provided assistance, the man was hospitalized, and later brought before judicial authorities.
“After this incident, the now-detained individual presented the officers who saved him that day with a commemorative plaque, which he sent to the Cascais police division, thanking officers Hélio Antunes and Pedro Cruz for saving his life four years ago,” the Cometlis note concludes.
